Abstract

The observation of a marked decline of CBG activity in the rat early in lactation (Fig. IX-9) suggested that CBG may play a role in the initiation of lactation (Gala and Westphal, 1965 a). If such a mechanism were of general significance, similar changes in the CBG level should occur in other species. Corticosteroid-binding activity was therefore determined in mouse, rabbit and guinea pig during pregnancy and lactation (Gala and Westphal, 1967).
