1. Cholesterol, fatty acid, alkyldiacylglycerol, phosphotidyl choline, phosphotidyl ethanolamine and an unidentified phospholipid were separated by thin-layer chromatography.
2. Gas-liquid chromatography of the lipids showed that the predominant fatty acids in the female gland have chain lengths ranging from C16 to C20 while those of the male gland ranged from C10 to C20.
3. The prevalence of C16:0 and C18:1 in the female contributes to an aspect of sexual dimorphism in the hamster Harderian gland not reported previously.
